The Tom Lantos Institute is launching a new project to develop a database of minority rights jurisprudence. This database is intended primarily to assist minorities in their advocacy work by collecting and analysing relevant case law from international and regional courts and quasi-judicial bodies, organising it according to key themes of minority protection and making it available in an easily understandable language. The database is envisaged as a searchable, user-friendly resource for experts, public bodies, national human rights institutions, civil society organisations, minority representatives, researchers, public interest lawyers, and other stakeholders working for the human rights of minorities.
In 2023, we will begin the process of designing and developing a database in collaboration with Birmingham Law School’s Centre for Employability, Professional Legal Education and Research (CEPLER). First, we will conduct preliminary research mapping existing relevant databases and critically analysing them in light of the project's objectives. Informed by the research findings, we will determine the format of the database, identify its uses, and then develop its basic structure.
