Mr Szabó studied history and German language and literature at the Lajos Kossuth University in Debrecen and graduated in 1975. He was a founder (1989) and between 1994-2002 International Secretary of the Hungarian Socialist Party. He was elected 1990 to member of the Budapest 11th district local government assembly, 1994 to member of the Budapest capital local government assembly. Since 1998 he has been a Member of the Hungarian Parliament, in 2001-2002 and 2006-2009, served as Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee. During 2002-2006, he was a Political State Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office and during 2009-2010 Senior State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Between 1998 and 2014 he was a Member of the Hungarian Parliament. Between 2014 - 2018, Mr. Szabó is the International Secretary of the Hungarian Socialist Party. He retired in 2018.
