In recent years, the Tom Lantos Institute organised a training series for Roma women’s organisations aimed at strengthening existing initiatives and facilitating the participation of Roma women in public life.
In 2020, our capacity-building project reached its final phase, and we will evaluate to what degree the training programme contributed to strengthening the advocacy skills of Roma women and enhancing their participation in public life. In addition, we are organising a project closing event aimed at providing an opportunity for participants to share their experiences and introduce their local initiatives to donor organisations, and to discuss different options for securing funding for their operations and project implementation.
Roma Women in Public Life
The training sessions in 2019 centred on organisational development, strategy building, project planning and fundraising. The first training event was held on 27 and 28 April on strategic management, including missions, visions and goals, which informed the development of participants’ own action strategies. The second training session took place on 10 and 11 May, and provided an introduction to project planning and management. The third training event on 24 and 25 May focused on fundraising and proposal writing skills.
Following the trainings, participants designed and implemented their own projects with support from TLI through a professional mentor programme.
