The Tom Lantos Institute and its American sister organisation, the Lantos Foundation for Human Rights and Justice, in partnership with the Hungarian Jewish Community and the local government in Siófok unveils a Holocaust memorial in Siófok, in the garden of the synagogue. The memorial is the work of the sculptor István Zalubel.
The inauguration will take place in the garden of the synagogue on 15 September 2014, at 3 pm. Speeches will be delivered by Ilan Mor, Ambassador of the State of Israel, Árpád Balázs, Mayor of Siófok, László Szabó, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Annette Lantos Tillemann-Dick, Co-Chair of the Advisory Board of the Lantos Foundation, Anna-Mária Bíró, Director of the Tom Lantos Institute and László Róna, Member of the Board of MAZSIHISZ – Alliance of Hungarian Jewish Faith Communes. Péter Petrovics, Deputy Rabbi and Csilla Gulyás harp player will contribute to the event.
The artist, the Tom Lantos Institute and the Lantos Foundation emphasise the importance of remembering national tragedies, since with learning the historical lessons it contributes to the strengthening of a future based on democratic norms and values.
